Electric Vibes and Soulful Sounds Fill the Air at The Social Experiment Music Fest in Gangtok
In a night to remember, The Social Experiment Music Fest, presented by The Rizz Events & Entertainment, lit up the Saramsa Garden in Gangtok on April 9, 2025, with electrifying performances by two of Nepal’s most celebrated bands, John and the Locals, and Swar. The music festival also featured opening acts by local band Avineet Rahul and the Band, and DJ Bibz, along with food and other stalls.
Project Swar: A New Chapter in Melodic Soft Rock
Swar, a project started in 2022 by a group of musicians from various bands, aims to create a unique sound by blending different genres. "We wanted to do Project Swar because all the members come from different bands and diverse genres," said frontman Swapnil Sharma. The band’s decision to transition from hard rock to melodies has resulted in a mesmerizing sound that has captivated audiences nationwide. With a new team of musicians, Swar has reached a broader audience, even attracting Gen Z listeners. "We’re getting to experiment a lot and think from a new perspective," added Rohit Shakya, guitarist and co-founder. As they performed in Sikkim for the first time, the band expressed excitement about the response from the Sikkimese audience.
John & The Locals: Bringing Emotional Melodies to the Stage
John & The Locals, led by Nepali singer/songwriter John Chamling Rai, has established itself as a force in Nepali music. Known for their emotional melodies and dynamic live performances, the band has captivated audiences with their unique sound. Fronted by John’s powerful vocals and songwriting, the band’s backing ensemble complements their emotional depth. With performances in Sikkim, John & The Locals have become a staple in the region’s music scene.

Co-founded by Himalaya Roadies Season 4 winner Naseeb Tamang and Abhinash Gurung, The Rizz Events’ ‘The Social Experiment Music Fest’ is a newly launched music festival in Sikkim, established in 2024. With a vision to create curated immersive experiences, the organizers aim to provide a platform for progressive audiences across multiple locations and platforms. "Our IP’s aim is to envision, create, and execute curated immersive experiences that stand out," expressed Abhinash Gurung. As The Social Experiment Music Fest continues to make waves in the Sikkim music scene, it’s clear that its impact will be felt for a long time to come.
