Hussain was allegedly in possession of 1.013 kilograms of brown-colored heroin and four vials containing 0.93 grams of white heroin. The confiscated drugs have an estimated street value of around Rs 1.1 crore in the regional clandestine drug trade.
The seized contraband items, including the drugs, a mobile phone, and identity documents, were handed over to the Imphal police station for taking legal proceedings under relevant sections of the law. The arrest is significant as it marks the first instance in the state where a drug smuggler has been arrested with two different colors of heroin powder seized.
According to a senior police officer who has dealt with drug smuggling cases, heroin is a highly addictive opioid drug made from morphine, a natural substance extracted from the seedpod of the opium poppy plant. The officer noted that heroin can be white, brown, or black in color, depending on the method of production and processing.
The successful operation is a major blow to drug traffickers in the region and demonstrates the commitment of the Manipur police to tackling the issue of narcotics smuggling.
