Modi’s Bold Defense Move: India Deploys Rafales, S-400s Against China, Boosts Borders!
Amid Rising Tensions with China and Bangladesh, India Deploys Advanced Defense Systems to Vulnerable Siliguri Corridor
India has taken a significant step to bolster its defenses in the face of increasing threats from China and Bangladesh, deploying its Russian-built S-400 long-range air defense system to the Siliguri Corridor, a narrow land bridge that connects mainland India to its resource-rich northeastern region. The Siliguri Corridor, often referred to as the “Chicken’s Neck” due to its geography, is a crucial military artery that has been a focal point of regional tensions.
The deployment follows a recent surge in air maneuvers by Chinese and Bangladeshi military assets along their borders connected to the Siliguri Corridor. India’s military planners have long warned of a potential pincer thrust by China via the Doklam Plateau, which could compromise India’s sovereignty and regional security. Against this backdrop, the induction of the S-400 system is seen as a significant deterrent, capable of detecting and neutralizing airborne threats at long ranges.
The development comes as Bangladesh’s newly installed government, led by Mohammad Yunus, has been shifting its diplomatic stance towards Beijing. India has consistently opposed China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), citing concerns that it could embed dual-use infrastructure across the Indo-Pacific, undermining regional sovereignty and military balance. The prospect of a Chinese-backed airbase in Bangladesh’s northern Lalmonirhat district, reportedly being planned, has specifically alarmed India, citing its proximity to the Siliguri Corridor.
In response, India has enhanced its defense capabilities in the region. The country has deployed BrahMos cruise missiles, capable of striking land and sea targets up to 500 kilometers away, and a multi-tiered air defense system to protect the Siliguri Corridor from low-flying threats. Furthermore, the Indian military has restricted drone flights within a 10-kilometer radius of the international boundary in sensitive border areas.
These measures demonstrate India’s commitment to safeguarding its security interests in the face of escalating tensions with China and Bangladesh. As regional dynamics continue to evolve, India’s strategic deployment of advanced defense systems serves as a clear warning to potential aggressors, underscoring its determination to protect its sovereignty and deter military aggression in the Indo-Pacific.
