Sikkim Police Make Daring Midnight Arrest in Shocking Minor Rape Case in Uttaray

In a disturbing incident in West Sikkim’s Uttaray, a 30-year-old man has been arrested by the local police for allegedly raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl. The accused, identified as Deepen Rai, a resident of Uttaray, is currently in police custody.
According to the police, the minor was brought to the Dentam PHC on April 6 with severe bleeding and a positive urine pregnancy test result. Further investigation revealed that the girl had been assaulted in the first week of February 2025 while returning from school in a jungle. The accused allegedly administered the victim with pills on April 4 and 5, leading to the severe bleeding. The victim has since been referred to the District Hospital Gyalshing for higher medical management and a detailed examination.
The police claim that Preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim had a history of heavy menstrual bleeding, which the accused exploited to sexually assault the minor. "The accused took advantage of the girl’s medical condition to commit the heinous crime," said a senior police officer speaking on condition of anonymity. The police apprehended Rai from his rented accommodation in Uttaray and has been under medical examination.
The case has been registered under UTTARAY PS Case FIR No. 03/2025 dated April 6, 2025, under Sections 63/64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 5(j)(ii)/6 of the POCSO Act, 2012. The police have initiated an inquiry into the incident, and the accused is expected to face trial under the strict provisions of the POCSO Act.
