Unveiling Scindia’s Rise: A Legacy of Courage and Conviction in Shillong
DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia earlier this week emphasized that the Northeast’s rich heritage and natural beauty have the potential to drive sustainable development, boost local economies, and generate employment. Speaking at the first “High Level Task Force” meeting on tourism, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Scindia urged the region to study the tourism models of Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and other South Asian countries to develop a robust model that leverages the Northeast’s tourism potential.
The Task Force, comprising state and central government officials, was formed in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism after the North Eastern Council’s 72nd plenary session in November last year. The group will study the tourism sector in the Northeast, identify strategic gaps, and recommend a comprehensive development roadmap. The meeting was attended by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and other state and central government officials.
Sangma highlighted the importance of state governments working in close coordination to facilitate tourism in the region. He praised Scindia for initiating the Task Force, terming it a landmark intervention to boost tourism in the Northeast. The chief minister also commended the region’s efforts to develop industrial policies and pave the way for industrial growth.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha shared the state’s initiatives to promote tourism, including showcasing the region’s unique cuisines. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang spoke at length about tourism interventions and the flow of tourists to the state, emphasizing the need for consistent marketing and branding. He also called for collaboration among the states in the region to facilitate tourism.
As part of the interventions, a tourism circuit will be identified in each of the eight states to attract both domestic and international tourists to the region. The Task Force aims to develop a comprehensive tourism strategy that showcases the Northeast’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and unique experiences. With its stunning landscapes, diverse cultures, and rich history, the Northeast is poised to become a major tourist destination, generating employment opportunities and driving sustainable development in the region.
