Homeland in His Sight: HM Amit Shah’s Sensitive 3-Day Kashmir Visit to Reinforce Security & Reassure Martyrs’ Families
Union Home Minister Amit Shah Arrives in Jammu for Packed Schedule Visit
Union Home Minister Amit Shah began his three-day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, with a packed schedule that includes meetings with top officials, reviews of security situations, and visits to the families of martyred policemen. The Minister arrived at the Jammu airport, where he was received by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh. Shah then drove directly to the Raj Bhawan in Jammu, where he will be based during his visit.
The Home Minister’s first stop will be the BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, where he will meet with party MLAs. He will also visit the ‘Vinay’ border outpost of the BSF on the International Border in Kathua district and review the overall security situation in the area. This visit comes just a day after four policemen were martyred while fighting terrorists in the Kathua district. Shah will pay his respects to the families of these brave men at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu later today.
Tomorrow, the Union Home Minister will leave for Srinagar in the afternoon, where he will take stock of developmental projects at the Raj Bhawan. Shah will also pay his respects to the family of Dy SP Humayun Bhat, who was martyred while fighting terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on September 13, 2023. The Home Minister will chair a security review meeting at 1 pm at the Raj Bhawan in Srinagar and will return to New Delhi in the afternoon.
Shah’s visit comes amid rising tensions in Jammu and Kashmir, with both Hindu and Muslim groups holding protests and rallies in different parts of the region. The Home Minister’s meetings with top officials and security personnel will likely focus on the current security situation and ways to enhance it. The government has been working to improve the security situation in the region, and Shah’s visit is seen as a key step in this process.
As the Home Minister navigates the complex landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, his visit is being closely watched by residents of the region and national newspapers alike. With its rich history and cultural heritage, Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive and contested region, and any move by the government to improve the security situation is bound to have far-reaching consequences.
