Himanta Biswa Sarma Commits Rs 15 Crore to Revitalize Historic Bathow Temples at Prestigious Tamulpur Event
Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma displayed his commitment to preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage by attending the 32nd Annual Conference of the All Bathow Mahasabha in Tamulpur on April 6. The grand event brought together a large gathering of devotees and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate the ancient traditions of the Bathow faith. The conference served as a platform to honor and promote the unique spiritual and cultural practices of the Bathow community.
The dignitaries present at the conference included Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, along with senior leaders from the Bathow Mahasabha. In his address, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the historical significance of the Bathow religion, describing it as one of the oldest living faiths globally. His speech demonstrated his sensitivity to the importance of preserving indigenous cultures. Interestingly, his engagement with the community went beyond words as he participated in traditional rituals alongside Pramod Boro and other community members, paying respects to the Bathow deities.
In an effort to conserve and promote the Bathow traditions, Chief Minister Sarma made a significant announcement, providing a financial package of Rs. 15 crore for the construction of three new Bathow Thansalis (temples) – Rs. 5 crore each for Goreswar, Chirang, and Ghoramara (Tezpur). Additionally, a grant of Rs. 5 lakh was awarded to assist 100 existing Bathow Thansalis across Assam in maintaining their upkeep and promoting their cultural significance. This move signifies the state government’s dedication to preserving cultural diversity and protecting the traditions of native faiths.
The Chief Minister’s commitment to safeguarding indigenous cultures was further emphasized by his support for community-led conservation efforts. His presence and engagement with the community raise hope for better recognition and preservation of the Bathow religion, long-standing traditions preserved for generations.
