Guwahati Police Conducts Decisive Crackdown on Thieves, Nets 587 and Recovers Rs 5 Crore Worth of Property in Three-Month Operation
Guwahati Police Records Significant Progress in First Quarter of 2025
Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain held a press briefing at the DCP Traffic Office in Panbazar, shedding light on the key achievements of Guwahati Police from January to March 2025. Jain revealed that the city police had made significant headway in curbing theft, drug trafficking, mobile phone thefts, and stunt-related violations, as well as tracing missing persons and tackling cybercrime.
In a major crackdown on theft, the police arrested 587 individuals involved in theft cases, successfully recovering stolen property valued at a staggering Rs 5 crore. Furthermore, a targeted operation against vehicle theft led to the recovery of 22 four-wheelers, 81 two-wheelers, and 10 three-wheelers, with 84 suspects taken into custody.
The Guwahati Police also made tremendous progress in combating the drug menace, apprehending 192 drug traffickers and seizing narcotics worth Rs 9 crore in the first quarter of the year. In addition, the force made considerable strides in tackling mobile phone thefts and stunt-related violations, recovering 583 stolen mobile phones and confiscating 58 motorcycles and 3 cars used in such illegal acts.
In a notable turn of events, the city’s efforts in tracing missing persons showed encouraging results, with 239 individuals successfully located and rescued. Furthermore, the Guwahati Police demonstrated their growing efficiency in cybercrime investigations by recovering Rs 72 lakh lost to cyber fraud.
The success of these efforts can be attributed to the city police’s unwavering commitment to keeping Guwahati safe and secure.
