Explosive Legal Battle: Renowned Speaker Dushyanth Sridhar Takes Stand Against Temple Activist Rangarajan Narasimhan in Madras HC
Vedic scholar and renowned orator Dushyanth Sridhar is seeking permission from the Madras High Court to file a defamation suit against temple activist Rangarajan Narasimhan, claiming damages of ₹1 crore. The suit arises from allegations that Narasimhan made abusive and derogatory comments about Sridhar on social media since 2023. The legal proceedings unfolded on April 3, 2025, when Justice K. Kumaresh Babu allowed Narasimhan until April 29, 2025, to submit his written objections to the leave application. Appearing in person, Narasimhan argued that the suit should have been filed in Tiruchi, where he permanently resides in Srirangam, rather than in Chennai.
Sridhar, a permanent resident of Bengaluru, opted to bring the matter before the Madras High Court, noting that his largest audience resides in Chennai. Sridhar’s legal counsel highlighted his background as a chemical engineer with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences (BITS) in Pilani, Rajasthan. Transitioning from engineering, Sridhar has become a distinguished figure in religious circles, known for his eloquent discourses on the principles of Sanatana Dharma. Proficient in Tamil, English, and Hindi, his talks on revered texts like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Vishnu Purana have garnered a global audience.
The court heard claims from Sridhar’s counsel that Narasimhan’s social media remarks were personal attacks and vitriol that exceeded fair criticism, causing significant emotional and reputational harm. Sridhar requested the court to order Narasimhan to remove the offensive comments and cease from making future defamatory statements. Additionally, Sridhar is seeking ₹1 crore in damages citing the disrepute brought by these comments. Sridhar emphasized, “Though the plaintiff extensively travels and delivers discourses across the globe, the plaintiff’s chosen and primary place of operation is Chennai, where he enjoys the highest following and has the maximum number of disciples and speaking engagements/discourses.”
Sridhar’s legal team has portrayed Narasimhan as a habitual abuser, known for seeking controversy and sensation to elevate his public profile through excessive and malignant criticism of respected individuals.
