Mumbai Police Summon Kunal Kamra for Third Time Amid Shinde Remarks Controversy
Mumbai police have summoned comedian Kunal Kamra for the third time to join the investigation into a case filed against him for his comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The latest summons was issued after Kamra failed to appear before the police despite being granted an interim anticipatory bail until April 7 by the Madras High Court.
According to sources, the Khar police served Kamra the third summons, asking him to join the probe by April 5. This development comes after the police arrested 12 Sena workers, who later released on bail, following the vandalism of the Habitat studio in Khar where Kamra’s stand-up show was held. The incident occurred after a video clip of the show was uploaded online, leading to a public backlash.
The police have also sent notices to a few audience members who were present at Kamra’s show, asking them to visit the police station and record their statement as witnesses. Meanwhile, four FIRs have been filed against Kamra over his remarks about Shinde during his stand-up show titled “Naya Bharat.” The case was filed on a complaint by Shinde Sena MLA Murji Patel, while other cases were filed in different districts of Maharashtra and later transferred to the Khar police station.
The latest development in the case is a reflection of the tense atmosphere surrounding the issue, with the police taking a stern stance to ensure that the investigation is carried out smoothly. Senior police officers have refrained from commenting on the matter, but the evolution of the case is set to have significant implications for the future of Kamra’s career and the role of social media in shaping public discourse.
As the police continue to tread a fine line between upholding the law and respecting individual freedoms, the Kamra case serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of free speech and the need for responsible social media usage. The outcome of the case is likely to set a precedent for the way the authorities approach such issues in the future, and Kamra’s fate will be closely watched by fans and detractors alike.
