Kumbh Director Arrested on Rape Charges Amid Backlash Over Casting Monalisa in Film
Delhi Filmmaker Arrested for Rape, Exploitation in the Entertainment Industry
Filmmaker Sanoj Mishra, known for giving a film role to internet sensation Monalisa, has been arrested by Delhi Police in Ghaziabad after a rape case against him was rejected by the Delhi High Court. The 45-year-old director was taken into custody on March 30, 2024, following extensive surveillance and intelligence gathering. The development comes after a 28-year-old woman, an aspiring actress from a small town, accused Mishra of repeatedly sexually assaulting her over four years.
The complainant alleged that she and Mishra were in a live-in relationship in Mumbai during that time. According to her, Mishra forced her to undergo three abortions and later reneged on his promise to marry her. The allegations were corroborated by an FIR lodged on March 6, 2024, under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape, assault, and causing miscarriage without consent. The woman reaffirmed her allegations in a statement recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Medical evidence gathered from Muzaffarnagar also supported her claims.
The case escalated when Mishra allegedly took the woman to Hotel Shiva in Delhi’s Nabi Karim area on February 18, 2025. He is accused of engaging in sexual relations with her before abandoning her, leading to the police complaint. Following a thorough investigation, authorities arrested Mishra and placed him in custody at the Nabi Karim Police Station. The arrest has sparked concerns about exploitation in the entertainment industry, with calls for greater accountability and oversight.
The case has also raised questions about the treatment of women in the industry and the need for greater support systems. The allegations against Mishra have sent shockwaves through the film industry, with many calling for a thorough and unbiased investigation into the matter. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of all individuals, particularly women, in the entertainment industry. As the investigation continues, the public will be keenly watching to see how these disturbing allegations are addressed.
