Rapid Progress in Arunachal: CM Khandu Highlights State’s 2016-2023 Growth Milestones
Arunachal Pradesh Experiences Rapid Development under Pema Khandu’s Leadership
Arunachal Pradesh has made significant strides in development since 2016, thanks to the “reformation, performance, and transformation” policies of Chief Minister Pema Khandu. Khandu credits the government’s initiatives for the state’s accelerated progress, citing a 135% increase in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) since 2016.
The state budget has also undergone substantial growth, from Rs 12,500 crore in 2016 to over Rs 40,000 crore in 2025. Additionally, the state’s per capita income has risen by 105%, with GST collection increasing by a whopping 584%. State-owned resources, which stood at just Rs 900 crore in 2016, have surged to over Rs 40,000 crore, according to Khandu.
Speaking at a developmental meeting at Shergaon in West Kameng district, Khandu expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including his cabinet, MLAs, panchayat members, the chief secretary, and district officials, for their contributions to the state’s development. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support, saying, “We are fortunate to have a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi, who believes that India’s progress is linked to the progress of the Northeast.”
The chief minister emphasized the importance of road connectivity, revealing that rural connectivity has expanded by 251%, with National Highways growing by 143%, since 2016. He highlighted the Computerized Road Development Programme, which has connected almost all unconnected ADC, CO headquarters, and villages. Khandu also revealed the realignment of the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga road, reducing the Balemu-Kalaktang distance from 50 km to approximately 19.2 km.
Responding to various memorandums, Khandu assured that the PWD is surveying the Shergaon to Mandala top road and will soon approve it. He also expressed a positive response to proposals for the Shergaon to Doimara road, water projects for Kalaktang and Rupa townships, and a stadium in Shergaon. Khandu inaugurated 14 projects worth Rs 102 crore and laid the foundation for 21 new projects worth Rs 126 crore in the Kalaktang assembly constituency.
As Arunachal Pradesh continues to experience rapid development, Khandu’s vision for “Team Arunachal” is to maintain the momentum. He believes the state’s location, with its international borders to three countries, is a key driver of progress, making it a hub for national discussions. With its potential and pace of development across all sectors, Arunachal Pradesh is set to continue its remarkable journey under Khandu’s leadership.
