Assam’s Nostalgic Moment: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Kampur Bridge, Connecting Reel to Real
In a heartwarming display of nostalgia, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revisited his childhood memories while inaugurating the newly rebuilt Kampur railway overbridge in Nagaon district. The Rs 63 crore project has significantly enhanced connectivity for local commuters, replacing an existing level crossing gate. Additionally, the Assam government has transformed the historic Kapili River Bridge at Kampur, built in 1958-59, into a pedestrian walkway, fulfilling a longstanding public demand.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma reminisced about his appearance in the Assamese film Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati, where he played a child actor. Notably, the film’s iconic elephant-riding scene was shot on the same bridge, which has now been revamped. The chief minister shared his experience on social media, saying, “I rode an elephant years back for the film ‘Kokadeuta Nati aur Hati.’ Today, as I dedicated the new bridge here, a long demand of the people, I couldn’t help but recreate the cult scene.”
As he rode an elephant on the newly reconstructed bridge, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the phrase “Reel to Real,” emphasizing the surreal experience of reenacting his childhood role while inaugurating the new bridge. This momentous occasion not only marks a significant milestone in infrastructure development but also celebrates the region’s rich cinematic heritage.
The revamped Kapili River Bridge and the newly built Kampur railway overbridge are expected to greatly improve the lives of locals, enhancing connectivity and accessibility. As the Assam government continues to prioritize public welfare, these projects serve as a testament to its commitment to the well-being of its citizens.
The inauguration ceremony serves as a poignant reminder of the power of nostalgia, where the past blends seamlessly with the present. Chief Minister Sarma’s heartfelt reminiscences underscore the significance of bridging the gap between reality and cinema, underscoring the transformative impact of both on our lives. As the Kampur railway overbridge and the revamped Kapili River Bridge take center stage, they become beacons of progress, linking the past to the future.
