Crackdown in Manipur: Eight Arrested, Two Militants among the Netted
Manipur security forces launched a series of operations on March 29 and 30, leading to the arrest of eight individuals, including two militants affiliated with the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group).
In one operation, a security personnel arrested Thoidam Suresh Singh, 34, from Ningsingkhul, Jiribam, on March 30. Singh, an active cadre of the KCP (PWG) Lamyanba Khuman faction, was taken into custody. Additionally, Salam Malemnganba Singh, 23, an active member of the same group, was arrested from a field on the eastern side of Tiddim Road at Upoki Village in Bishnupur district on March 29. A mobile phone was seized from his possession during the arrest.
In a separate operation, the district police arrested six individuals in connection with a case registered at Kangpokpi police station on March 29. The arrested individuals – Khaikahao Kipgen, 40; Letgoumang Touthang, 33; Aabi Baral, 28; Jitten Kharka, 22; L H Ranirou, 42; and Leah Chao, 44 – are suspected to be involved in drug trafficking. In connection with the case, the police also seized 174 soap cases of suspected brown sugar and a four-wheeler vehicle.
