Karate Champions Sangdo and Langdo Claim Gold in Thrilling National Competition
ITANAGAR, MARCH 29 – John Sangdo and Mepung Langdo emerged victorious, each securing a gold medal at the 4th KIO Under-21 National Karate Championship-2025, held at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. Sangdo’s triumph came in the U-21 male kata category, while Langdo claimed her medal in the below 68 kg female kumite event.
According to Arunachal Pradesh Amateur Karate Do Association general secretary John Bagang, the state’s team, comprising Abab Sangdo, John Sangdo, Sunday Bokar, and Khyoda Talik, won a silver medal in the kata event in the men’s senior category. Gomi Dolum and Rota Rigia claimed silver medals each in the senior female kumite and senior male kumite, respectively.
Rigia won his medal in the below 50 kg category, while Dolum secured hers in the +68 kg category. Gomi Dolum also won a silver medal in the U-21 female kumite, claiming her medal in the same +68 kg category. Nime Lokam and Rota Rigia took home bronze medals each in the U-21 category, with Lokam winning in the -55 kg female kumite and Rigia in the -50 kg male kumite.
Atum Sono won a bronze medal in the para-championship, with IB Chetri serving as the team coach. The Arunachal Pradesh team’s impressive performance at the championship has once again put the state on the national karate map, and it will be interesting to see how they build on this achievement in the future.
