Medhavi Skills University Celebrates Milestone with First Convocation Ceremony
Gangtok, Sikkim: 112 Students Awarded Degrees at Medhavi Skills University’s First Convocation
Medhavi Skills University (MSU) in Sikkim marked a significant milestone by hosting its first convocation, bestowing degrees upon 112 students who have completed various programs, including Diploma in Emergency Medical Technology, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, Diploma in Radiology and Imaging Technology, and Bachelor of Business Administration – Retail Operations.
The convocation was attended by State Education Minister Raju Basnet as the chief guest and Prof. Mahendra P. Lama, senior professor at JNU and Emeritus chief economic advisor to the Government of Sikkim, as the guest of honor. The event was also attended by notable dignitaries, including Dr. Rajesh Pankaj, director and head of Education and Skill at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Dr. T. Pema Bhutia, DHS/ME, Government of Sikkim, and C.R. Namchu, registrar, Sikkim Nursing Council.
In his address, Education Minister Raju Basnet praised MSU for pioneering the skill-integrated higher education model, saying, “In an era where industries evolve rapidly, institutions like MSU are playing a transformative role in shaping the future workforce of India.”
The minister also highlighted the State government’s commitment to make Sikkim an education hub, saying, “Unlike the former government, which was focused on planting casinos and pharmaceutical companies in Sikkim, the SKM government has been planting universities in different parts of Sikkim. Students these days are fortunate to have such wonderful universities at the comfort of their homes.”
Convocation Address
Prof. Mahendra P. Lama, in his convocation address, congratulated the graduating students, encouraging them to embrace lifelong learning and adaptability. He said, “Your education is the foundation of your future. Use your knowledge not just for personal success, but to contribute meaningfully to society.”
Prof. Lama also warned of the various challenges and roadblocks that the graduates may face, saying, “Be prepared to face it, and your motherland will be proud of you.”
Founders’ Remarks
MSU founder and Chancellor Pravesh Dudani remarked, “Our goal is to produce graduates who are not only employable but also capable of driving change in their industries. Today, we celebrate the first step towards that vision.”
Co-founder and Pro-Chancellor Kuldip Sarma emphasized, “MSU honours not just academic achievement, but the unwavering spirit of our nation’s youth. At MSU, we have nurtured a generation that is not just employable but capable of creating employment. Our graduates are equipped with the skills, resilience, and patriotic fervour to uplift industries, strengthen national development, and lead the country towards self-reliance.”
Vice-Chancellor’s Address
MSU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amiya Singh expressed that the first convocation ceremony of MSU marks a significant milestone, where not only the achievements of the graduating students were celebrated but also the collective vision and efforts that have shaped the base of the institution towards promoting skill-integrated higher education. He highlighted the achievements of MSU, saying, “MSU was established in 2021, with the vision to integrate industry-relevant skills in higher education format, in order to bridge the gap between academic outcomes and industry expectations, thereby ensuring that higher education is not just about acquiring knowledge but about solving problems, employability, job experience, and life skills.”
