TMC MP Sushmita Dev Blasts BJP in Scathing Attack
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Planned Oxford University Visit ‘A Symbol of Global Recognition for Empowerment Schemes’
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sushmita Dev has come to the defense of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s upcoming visit to the UK, where she has been invited to deliver a speech at Oxford University, sparking sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to Dev, the invitation is a testament to Banerjee’s significant achievements in implementing social empowerment schemes, which have earned her global recognition. “West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has implemented very good schemes for social empowerment, and Oxford University has recognized her work,” she said. The TMC MP lambasted the BJP for questioning Banerjee’s achievements, accusing the party of harboring an anti-women mindset.
Dev took a direct swipe at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP’s ideological mentor, claiming that its “Sanghi” thinking is fundamentally opposed to women. “Have you ever seen a woman in RSS?” she asked. The TMC MP also challenged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, inviting him to provide information on the start date of the Orunodoi Scheme, which he had introduced, and comparing it to the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme launched by Banerjee.
Dev’s remarks came amid ongoing debates over Banerjee’s international engagements and the BJP’s stance on women’s representation in leadership roles. The TMC MP emphasized that the West Bengal CM’s leadership and governance have made a significant impact, earning her global recognition. “We are proud of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee,” she said. The controversial statements by Dev suggest that the TMC is prepared to vigorously defend its leader and her initiatives, amidst ongoing political bickering.
