Guwahati, Assam: Amid a grand ceremony at Janata Bhawan, the Assam government today distributed a sum of Rs 99 crore among 378 tea estates under the Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS). The scheme, aimed at promoting the production of high-quality specialty teas, was inaugurated by the state government with an objective to boost the economy.
Four key components of the scheme were launched, including a three percent interest subvention on working capital loan, a Rs 10 per kg subsidy on orthodox or specialty tea production, a 25 percent subsidy on the cost of plant and machinery for orthodox and specialty tea units, and an agricultural income tax holiday for three years. The ceremonial distribution of incentives was attended by state ministers, MLAs, senior government officers, representatives from the Tea Board of India, six tea associations of Assam, and tea gardens.
According to State Minister of Industries, Commerce, and Public Enterprises, Bimal Borah, the scheme will significantly benefit the tea industry, ensuring its sustainable growth and global competitiveness. The initiative is also expected to lead to long-term financial stability for the tea industry, which is a crucial aspect of the state’s economy.
