Indian Railways Introduces Third Vande Bharat Train for Kerala
The Indian Railways has rolled out its third Vande Bharat Express for Kerala, set to commence operations on the Ernakulam—Bengaluru route starting Wednesday. This semi-high-speed train will run three days a week, targeting the convenience of passengers, especially Malayalis employed in Bengaluru’s IT sector.
Timetable and Stops
The Ernakulam-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express will depart from Ernakulam Junction at 12:50 PM and arrive in Bengaluru by 10:00 PM. On the return leg, the train will leave Bengaluru Cantt at 5:30 AM and reach Ernakulam Junction at 2:20 PM. En route, it will halt at Thrissur, Palakkad, Podanur, Tirupur, Erode, and Salem.
Fare and Ticketing
Ticket reservations, managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), are already open. The fare for an AC Chair Car is ₹1,465, while the Executive Chair Car costs ₹2,945. The service from Ernakulam to Bengaluru will be available on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and the return journey from Bengaluru to Ernakulam will operate on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays.
Enhanced Rail Technology
India marked a milestone in its rail technology by introducing indigenous Vande Bharat trains, originally known as Train 18, in February 2019. Designed to reach speeds up to 180 km/h, these trains are often capped at 130 km/h due to track limitations. Despite this, they hold the record for the highest average speeds on their routes, with the New Delhi-Varanasi route achieving an average speed of 95 km/h.
Vande Bharat trains are not just faster but also boast quick acceleration and deceleration capabilities, standing out as the quickest option on all their routes. This latest addition for Kerala is expected to significantly improve travel time and convenience for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.
