China Wages Quiet War on India in Global Manufacturing Market
In a subtle but disastrous strategy, China is quietly circumventing India’s efforts to establish itself as a major player in the global manufacturing market. According to chartered accountant and influencer Vivek Khatri, India is too busy holding summits and crafting policy documents, while China is quietly reshaping the global supply chain.
This is a form of industrial warfare, Khatri argues, with China leading the charge. The country is utilizing its massive trade surplus as a geopolitical tool, investing in countries like Hungary, Mexico, Morocco, Vietnam, and Indonesia, and receiving cooperation from these nations in return for substantial investments. This strategy, known as the "China Plus One" plan, sets India aside, deliberately keeping the country out of the loop.
Khatri believes that India is uniquely positioned to rival China’s manufacturing prowess, having observed how China itself ascended to dominance. Yet, China seems intent on depriving India of this opportunity, just as Apple’s struggles in India, with production levels at a mere 15% of its global target, demonstrate. The company’s iPhone production in India is hindered by strikes, delays, and irregularities in work, further supporting Khatri’s claims.
India, however, still has a chance to counter China’s plans, if it streamlines its bureaucratic processes, expedites trade agreements, develops industrial clusters, and strengthens its infrastructure. The onus is on India to respond to this silent war by being proactive and strategically adapting to the changing landscape. As the global manufacturing market continues to evolve, only time will tell if India can emerge victorious in this industrial battle.
