Assam’s Notorious Crime Lord Falls in a Blaze of Bullets: Drug Kingpin Eliminated in Dramatic Shootout near Itanagar
A Sudden Shootout at Holongi Road: Notorious Drug Kingpin Apprehended
A daring shootout unfolded on Holongi Road, near the capital of Itanagar, as Assam-based drug kingpin Rohit Basumatary was shot in the legs and taken into custody by police. Two police personnel were injured in the intense encounter.
According to SP Rohit Rajbir Singh, the operation was carried out after police received a tip-off about Basumatary’s movement near Sogo Resort. “We had prior information regarding a vehicle carrying narcotics to the capital, but we only had the last two digits of its number plate. When we identified a suspicious AS-registered vehicle, our team led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi, OC K. Yangfo, and Sub-Inspector Tamu Bagang attempted to intercept it, but Basumatary broke through the barricades, hit an electric pole, and lost control of the vehicle,” the SP revealed.
As police tried to apprehend him, Basumatary opened fire, firing two rounds at the SDPO’s vehicle. He then fled into the nearby jungle, prompting police to give chase. When officers pursued him, Basumatary fired again, this time targeting Sub-Inspector Tamu Bagang. Fortunately, the police were aware of his possession of arms and were equipped with bulletproof jackets. In response, Basumatary was shot in the legs and apprehended.
Police personnel Manish was also injured during the operation, which was the culmination of a 10-day effort to track down and disrupt narcotics smuggling activities. “For the past 10 days, we were tracking narcotics smuggling activities, and today, we executed our plan. I warn drug kingpins from other states to refrain from bringing narcotics into Arunachal. I assure our people that the capital police are fully equipped and active to tackle these drug peddlers with an iron hand,” the SP emphasized.
Basumatary was immediately taken to RK Mission Hospital for treatment under police custody, pending further investigation. The operation has sent a strong message to drug traffickers, warning them that the police in Arunachal will not tolerate such activities. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Arunachal, and the law will be upheld with utmost force.
