A devastating food poisoning incident at a residential school in Mandya, Karnataka, has left a trail of sorrow, but thankfully, the ordeal has come to an end for 22 students from Meghalaya, who were finally discharged from the hospital, bringing relief to their families. The tragic event claimed the lives of two students, 12-year-old Namebantei Marwein and Class VII student Khrehlang Khongtani, and left several others from Meghalaya in critical condition.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, on his official Twitter handle, expressed his relief and gratitude to the authorities in Karnataka, stating, “Relieved and happy to see all 22 students discharged from the hospital at Mandya, Karnataka. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the district administration and the government of Karnataka for their support during this difficult time.” This sentiment was echoed by the authorities, who promptly shut down the institution and detained key figures, including the school owner and the hostel warden, in connection with the incident. The owner of the school and the hostel warden were among the three individuals detained in relation to the tragedy.
The Meghalaya government has been actively involved in assisting the affected families, with Commissioner and Secretary (Home) Cyril Diengdoh, along with other officials, traveling to Karnataka to support the families of the victims and collaborate with local authorities to ensure proper investigations and assistance. This swift response from the authorities has been praised by many, including the Chief Minister, who expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the efforts.
As the situation returns to normal, the focus now shifts to ensuring that justice is served and accountability is taken by those responsible for the tragic events. The investigation is ongoing, and it is hoped that the authorities will do everything in their power to identify the root causes of the food poisoning and take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. The families of the victims will continue to require support, and it is crucial that the authorities and the school administration come together to provide the necessary assistance and compensation to help them cope with the loss.
