Shocking Home Invasion: Retired Professor, Wife Robbed at Gunpoint, 2 Men Arrested After Tipping Off Authorities by Domestic Worker
Delhi Police Closes in on Armed Robbers, Arrests Two Suspects in Ashok Vihar Heist
The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch arrested two accused, Suraj and Sachin, in connection with an armed robbery at a residence in Ashok Vihar’s Northwest Delhi on Monday. The duo, along with their associates, allegedly planned and executed the heist with the help of the domestic help, who is a cousin of one of the accused.
According to the police, the four suspects booked a cab from Pari Chowk to Ashok Vihar and then took an auto-rickshaw to the victim’s residence. They held the couple, a retired Delhi University professor and his wife, hostage and robbed them of valuables worth lakhs, including cash, gold, silver jewelry, and cellphones.
The domestic help, who had shared the details of the couple’s possessions with her cousin, confessed to her involvement in the crime during questioning. Police officials said they analyzed CCTV footage and circulated photos of the suspects to trace them. The probe led them to the Gautam Buddh Nagar area, where they raided possible hideouts and arrested Suraj near Ghaziabad’s Crossing Republik Mall.
Suraj, a repeat offender with 17 FIRs registered against him, and Sachin, with 14 FIRs, admitted to the crime during questioning. The police have recovered a substantial portion of the stolen items, including a gold chain, gold coins, and silver utensils.
The duo has a history of serious criminal offenses, including robbery, dacoity, attempted murder, and violations of the Excise and Arms Acts. An FIR has been registered against them under Section 31(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The hunt is on to apprehend the two other accused, who are still at large.
