A Family’s Plea for Justice: Colonel’s Wife Demands CBI Probe into Police Brutality Case
The wife of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Batth, Jaswinder Kaur Batth, has pleaded with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged police brutality case, where 12 police officers allegedly thrashed her husband, her son, and another relative over a parking dispute in Patiala. The family met the Governor on Thursday, seeking justice for the brutal treatment they received.
According to Kaur Batth, the FIR lodged by the police does not even mention the names of the accused officers, despite their suspension. “The inquiry officer has not yet revealed the names of the accused, despite suspending them. This is a clear indication of a cover-up,” she alleged, her anguish palpable. The family is also seeking a thorough probe into the handling of the case, which they believe has been marred by gross negligence and misconduct on the part of the police.
The development comes as the state government has appointed IAS officer Paramvir Singh, the Commissioner of Patiala Municipal Corporation, as the inquiry officer to investigate the case. The Home Department has directed him to complete the inquiry within three weeks. The Colonel’s family has, however, expressed reservations about the probe, terming it as inadequate and biased.
“We want a fair and impartial inquiry, and we believe only a CBI probe can ensure that,” Kaur Batth emphasized, her eyes welling up with tears. She added that her family was willing to cooperate with the inquiry, but only if it was carried out by an independent agency. The family’s plea has sparked widespread outrage, with many netizens taking to social media to demand justice for the Colonel and his family.
