Heartbreaking Delhi Coaching Centre Deaths: High Court to Hear Urgent Plea for Investigative Panel
Students held a protest outside Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar following the tragic deaths of three civil service aspirants, who drowned in the basement of the coaching center on Saturday night due to severe waterlogging. The victims, Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala, lost their lives after heavy rain inundated the basement on the evening of July 27.
The incident has sparked outrage and led to legal action. The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear a plea on July 31, which calls for the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the disaster. The plea was mentioned for urgent hearing by a petitioner advocate on July 30 before a Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela. The Bench indicated that the matter would be considered on July 31 if the petition is in order by that afternoon.
Additionally, the plea demands the creation of a committee to scrutinize other coaching institutes operating illegally and failing to comply with standard norms. The advocate filed the petition on July 29 and requested immediate attention from the court. However, the court insisted that any objections be cleared before listing the matter for hearing.
This grim incident highlights the pressing need for stringent oversight of educational institutions to ensure student safety and regulatory compliance, igniting calls for systemic reforms in the sector.
