Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Accuses BJP-Led Government of Neglecting Education and Health Sectors

Former Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar, has criticized the current BJP-led government in the state for allegedly prioritizing private entities over public services, leading to a decline in the quality of education and healthcare. Speaking at a blood donation camp organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) youth wing in Bamutia, near Agartala, Sarkar expressed his concerns about the state of the health sector, stating, “We are now witnessing a continuous decline in the health sector.”

Sarkar pointed out that the hospitals in Tripura are facing a severe shortage of doctors, nurses, and health workers, which is affecting healthcare services. Despite having the necessary infrastructure, the healthcare facilities are unable to function at the expected level due to a lack of trained staff. He emphasized that the state has enough trained nurses and health workers but is not utilizing them effectively, citing the example of the two medical colleges, Agartala Government Medical College and Tripura Medical College, established during the Left Front government.

The former CM also criticized the current government for its neglect of the education sector, saying that it has led to a lack of monitoring and administrative flaws, which has allowed private parties to gain control of the sector. He alleged that these private entities are running courses at high costs without qualified and trained teachers, making the right to education inaccessible to economically poor sections of society.

Sarkar’s comments come as the BJP-led government has been accused of promoting privatisation in various sectors, including education and healthcare. The opposition parties, including the Left Front, have been criticizing the government’s handling of these sectors, citing a lack of fair and inclusive approach.

The allegations of corruption and inefficiency have sparked widespread protests and demonstrations in the state, with many demanding greater accountability and transparency in governance. As the debate continues, one thing is clear: the people of Tripura are concerned about the direction of their state and the impact it may have on the quality of life.
