Stability & Harmony in Mizoram: CM Demands ‘Peace Bonus’ for Inner Peace from Amit Shah Meet
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma Meets with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Raises Concerns on Internet Connectivity, Refugee Crisis, and Security
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma recently met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss pressing issues affecting the state, including its internet connectivity, refugee crisis, and security concerns. During the meeting, Lalduhoma emphasized the need for immediate action to address these critical issues.
The state’s poor internet infrastructure has been a major obstacle to effective governance, with Lalduhoma urging the Ministry of Communication and IT to introduce a scheme to resolve the issue promptly. He stressed that improved connectivity is crucial for implementing new criminal laws and ensuring the smooth functioning of the state government.
The refugee crisis in Mizoram is another pressing concern, with the state currently hosting around 41,000 displaced individuals from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Manipur. The state’s limited resources are struggling to provide for these refugees’ basic needs, including food, shelter, and education, highlighting the need for continued financial and logistical support from the Central Government.
Lalduhoma also highlighted the need for enhanced border security measures, advocating for the establishment of more immigration checkpoints along Mizoram’s extensive international border. He expressed concerns over high police vacancies, a shortage of vehicles, and funding constraints, which have compromised the state’s law enforcement capabilities.
The Chief Minister also emphasized Mizoram’s exclusion from the Security-Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, which is provided to other states. Lalduhoma argued that, as the most peaceful state in the country, it should receive financial incentives for maintaining stability, rather being penalized for its peaceful nature. He suggested that the Home Ministry either extend the SRE scheme to Mizoram or provide a "Peace Bonus" as a reward for maintaining harmony, setting a positive example for other states.
Lalduhoma’s concerns are grounded in the reality of Mizoram’s challenges, which require immediate attention and support from the Central Government. As the state continues to navigate these pressing issues, it is crucial that its concerns are heard and addressed to ensure the well-being and development of its people.
