Vadodara Traffic Tragedy: Crime Scene Reconstruction, Official Accountability Unraveled, Probe Continues Under Intensive Scrutiny
A Law Student’s Alleged Negligence Leaves a Trail of Destruction in Vadodara
A local court in Vadodara has extended the police remand of Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student accused of killing one person and injuring seven others in a car accident that unfolded in a mere matter of seconds. The extension was granted after the police informed the court that “several aspects” of the investigation needed to be looked into, citing deviations from standard investigation procedures.
According to eyewitness Ashish Shah, the accident occurred on Thursday night, when Chaurasia’s vehicle crashed into three two-wheelers, causing a chain of events that would change the lives of those involved forever. Shah, whose family was among those injured, recalled the horror of that night: “The sound of the crash, the screech of the offending vehicle, and the victims’ cries for help turned into a dead silence even before Chaurasia stepped out of his car.”
The investigation has taken a new turn, with the Vadodara Commissioner of Police transferring three ASI for violating standard investigation procedures. The officers, identified as Shailendrasinh Ranjitsinh, Tersinh Mavjibhai, and Jitendra Babubhai, were accused of allowing Chaurasia to interact with external media. The police are conducting a detailed exercise to collect scientific, oral, physical, and medical evidence in the case.
The reconstruction of the crime scene was completed on Saturday, with Chaurasia being taken to the accident site following a visit to SSG Hospital, where he was being treated for chest pain and injuries sustained in the accident. The investigation has revealed that the crash was the result of Chaurasia’s alleged negligence, with the victims sustaining grave injuries, including multiple fractures, head injuries, and severe damage to muscles and veins.
The incident has left the victims and their families reeling, with the victims’ families demanding a severe punishment for Chaurasia. Ashish Shah, whose family was among those injured, urged stricter penalties, saying, “The driver would not have stopped the car if it had not come to a halt. The victims are seriously injured, and one of them died on the spot. The sentence should be nothing less than life imprisonment.”
As the investigation continues, the MS University, where Chaurasia is a student, has stated that it will not take any action against him at this time, citing that the incident occurred outside the university campus and is being investigated by the city police. However, the university has promised to take further action if guidance is received from higher authorities in the future. As the case unfolds, the families of the victims will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on the developments, hoping for justice to be served.
