Running for Kidney Health: Tura Christian Hospital’s Life-Saving Marathon for a Healthier You
Tura, March 15: In a display of community spirit and dedication to health, the Tura Christian Hospital (TCH) hosted a mini marathon run to mark World Kidney Day. The event, aimed at raising awareness about kidney health, drew in approximately 400 participants from all walks of life, with runners of all ages taking to the streets of Tura.
The marathon, flagged off by National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) national secretary Dabo M Marak, commenced from Chandmari playground at 6 AM. The 5km route took runners through a significant part of Tura, passing by notable landmarks such as Ringrey, MCH hospital, and AOC petrol pump.
The event received widespread support from the district administration, district sports office, Morning FC, a local football club, and Tribal Nation Riders, who provided valuable assistance in making the run a success. The marathon was completed with a loop circuit, with runners traversing through Jerusalem, AOC petrol pump, and Ringrey before returning to the starting point.
The winners’ list included four categories – under 13 boys, under 13 girls, over 13 males, and over 13 females. The top three finishers in each category received prizes of ₹4000, ₹3000, and ₹2000, along with certificates, announced by a panel of distinguished guests, including Dr. Editha W Momin, superintendent of TCH, Dr. Benjamin S Sangma, DM of Nephrology, Cassius Clay A Sangma, president of Morning FC, and Jack Marak, president of Tribal Nation Riders.
The winners of each category were: under-13 boys Adoweanga R. Marak, Chusrang Ch. Sangma, and Appay A. Sangma; under-13 girls Chena Ch. Marak, Αianchi D. Shira, and Pringname D. Sangma; over-13 males Nirest R. Marak, Wish R. Marak, and Bethnar A. Sangma; and over-13 females Raksilchi A. Marak, Susana M. Sangma, and Ritimesa N. Marak.
In a bid to spread awareness about kidney health, the event aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage residents to take proactive care of their well-being. The successful event organizers and participants alike hailed the initiative as a step in the right direction towards a healthier Tura.
