Heartbreaking Loss: Majestic Elephant Carcass Found in Digboi, Suspected Anthrax Tragedy
Elephant Carcass Suspected of Anthrax Found in Dibrugarh
Dibrugarh: The carcass of a male wild elephant, believed to have succumbed to anthrax, was discovered on Monday in a jungle near Bhimpathar village, under the Digboi Forest Division in Tinsukia district. The elephant, estimated to be between 8 to 10 years old, was examined by a veterinary team led by Dr. Rubul Saikia.
Dr. Saikia indicated that the condition and symptoms of the carcass strongly suggest anthrax as the cause of death. Although the final autopsy report is pending, immediate measures have been taken to prevent potential contamination. Part of the carcass was incinerated onsite, and the remains were buried. A protective fence has been erected around the burial site to restrict access for at least six months, ensuring no further contamination occurs.
In a related incident, a construction worker, Dhuram, tragically died at a building site in Gurgaon when a heap of soil collapsed on him. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead. His family did not file a complaint, and the body was handed over to them post-autopsy.
This summary encapsulates the main events in a clear and concise manner, maintaining a professional journalistic tone. The meticulous steps taken by the veterinary team to prevent further contamination underscore the seriousness of the situation.
