Nagaland Budget 2025-26: Rio Unveils Innovative Initiatives for a Prosperous Future
Nagaland Budget 2025-26 Sees Major Initiatives in Skill Development, Culture Preservation, and Economic Growth
Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio unveiled a slew of initiatives for the state’s Budget 2025-26, with a focus on skill development, culture preservation, and economic growth. In a session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Dr. Rio laid out plans to boost the state’s economy and create job opportunities for its youth.
The Nagaland Skill Mission aims to train 5,000 youth in self-employment and private-sector employment, with a special focus on emerging industries such as hospitality, tourism, healthcare, logistics, and skilled trades like plumbing, electrician, and mason. To ensure effective implementation, credible training partners across the country will be identified, and financial resources will be mobilized for those in need of assistance. With a budget allocation of Rs. 5 Crore, the mission hopes to place 5,000 youth in a one-year period.
In addition, the Living Morung initiative will revitalize and preserve traditional Naga culture and traditions. Inspired by the historical institution that once served as a center for skill training and social bonding, this initiative will re-establish Morung-inspired cultural hubs where intergenerational learning, skill training, and heritage conservation can take place. With an allocation of Rs. 5 Crore, the initiative will work with tribal councils and elders to preserve and adapt Naga heritage for future generations.
To address Nagaland’s energy deficit, the State Solar Power Mission will align with the PM Surya Ghar: Mujib Yojana (Solar Rooftop Power Generation Mission). With a GoI subsidy of Rs. 33,000 per kW (up to 2 kW) and Rs. 19,800 per additional kW, the mission will mobilize banks for solar rooftop loans and ensure affordability. With Rs. 10 Crore allocated, the initiative aims to enhance energy security while reducing long-term power costs for consumers.
Other key initiatives include the establishment of a Drone Training Centre, which will provide job-linked training programs in collaboration with private partners for drone pilot, drone service technician, and drone software developer positions. Additionally, the government will support infrastructure development in 20 unbanked blocks to facilitate long-term leasing to banks and ensure financial inclusion.
To enhance governance efficiency, a Capacity Building program for local bodies, village councils, and government officers will be launched, focusing on resource mobilization, policy formulation, financial management, and digital governance. The Chief Minister’s Fellowship Program will nurture future leaders and policy innovators, while the RFID-based e-way bill processing system will streamline trade, tax compliance, and logistics.
Finally, improvements to the Nagaland State Transport (NST) will include the introduction of a new fleet of buses and the upgrade of essential amenities at five priority NST stations.
These initiatives, with a total allocation of Rs. 75.50 Crore, demonstrate the government’s commitment to driving economic growth, preserving cultural heritage, and enhancing the quality of life for Nagaland’s citizens.
