Desperate and Determined: SPL TET-Qualified Teachers’ Passionate Hunger Strike Enters Day 7 Demanding Justice and Jobs
Guwahati, Feb. 24: An indefinite hunger strike by Special TET-qualified candidates continues into its seventh day, with protesters demanding immediate job appointments. Organized by the All Assam Special TET Qualified Association at Chachal, the demonstrators accuse the BJP-led Assam government of reneging on its electoral promise to provide jobs to successful candidates. Despite some protesters requiring medical attention, their resolve remains firm, citing years of service in Assam’s education sector. These candidates have contributed to various educational initiatives under the Sarva Shiksha Mission, including Sanyogi Shiksha Kendra, Jyoti Kendra, Residential Madrasas, and primary schools.
In their statement, the protestors highlighted that after sustained agitation, the government had conducted a Special TET examination on October 3, 2021. The challenging test saw only 667 out of 14,575 candidates pass. Despite assurances of immediate recruitment, four years have elapsed without any appointments, leaving qualified candidates frustrated and in distress.
