Achieving Unstoppable Naga Unity: A Powerful Journey of Hope and Collaboration | MorungExpress
A gathering at the Rengma Baptist Church, Sovima, on February 22, brought together college students and community members, focusing on Naga unity and reconciliation. Organized by the Nagaland Theological College Association (NTCA) and the Dimapur Naga Student’s Union (DNSU), the event was a call for collective hope and a united Naga front.
Rev Dr Ellen Konyak reflected on the history and challenges of peacebuilding efforts by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), formed in 2008. Despite the complexities of dealing with over 20 factions, the FNR has persevered, with a recent agreement signed on February 18, 2025, marking progress toward reconciliation. Dr Konyak emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between leaders and the public, recognizing young people’s role in shaping history, and tackling intergenerational trauma. She reminded the audience of the need to transform pain rather than translate it into further division.
Rev Dr N Paphino echoed the call for unity, acknowledging the historical divisions but stressing the indissoluble shared heritage and faith of the Nagas. He argued that unity is essential and achievable, rooted in the belief that “all things are possible with Christ.” Rev Paphino addressed skepticism about unity due to tribalism and political divisions but urged embracing a collective identity, supported by biblical teachings on reconciliation.
Dr Alem Sangtam, President of NTCA, expressed optimism that such gatherings reinforce solidarity’s power and every Naga’s role in the peace journey. The event concluded with prayers for the Naga nation, led by Dr Sashi Jamir, faculty of Oriental Theological Seminary, reinforcing the hope and determination shared among participants.
