Heart-Wrenching Incident: Soldier Seriously Injured in Shocking Landmine Blast in J-K’s Poonch
A soldier sustained injuries in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday, as reported by officials. The accident happened at 10:50 a.m. in the Nangi-Takeri area of the Krishna Ghati sector in Mendhar while Army personnel were on patrol duty. The soldier accidentally stepped on the landmine and was promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment. Officials highlighted that the forward areas, part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system, are peppered with land mines, which can be displaced by rainfall, leading to accidents.
In a separate incident the same day, Army troops discovered an old rusted mortar shell in Fazalabad village, Surankote area, in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. During an afternoon area domination patrol, the shell was found and the area was immediately cordoned off to ensure safety. The mortar shell was safely defused without causing any harm.
These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges faced by the Indian Army in maintaining security along the LoC, where hazardous remnants of past conflicts pose risks to personnel. The prompt medical response to the injured soldier and the careful defusal of the discovered shell highlight the vigilance and preparedness of the security forces operating in volatile border areas.
