Major Crackdown Unveils Shocking Arrest of 17 Key Operatives Across 4 Groups
In a significant crackdown on insurgency in Manipur, law enforcement agencies arrested 17 individuals, including a juvenile, associated with four insurgent outfits during wide-ranging operations in the state’s valley districts on Thursday. The multi-agency effort, involving Manipur Police, the 5th Sikh Regiment, the 2nd Mahar Regiment, Assam Rifles, and CRPF, targeted hotspots in the regions of Moirang Kiyam, Kakching Sumak, Imphal West, and Ngariyanching foothills.
The operations resulted in the arrest of 11 cadres from the Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL), including a juvenile, in Bishnupur district, and one additional KYKL activist in Kakching district. Further apprehensions included a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) in Imphal West, a Kangleipak Communist Party-City Meitei faction cadre in Bishnupur, and a United National Liberation Front-Pambei group member in Imphal East.
In addition to the arrests, authorities seized a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and incriminating documents. Among the confiscated items were four walkie-talkie chargers, three walkie-talkie sets, 31 pairs of jungle boots, live ammunition, seven mobile phones, and various tactical gear.
The arrested individuals were reportedly involved in extortion activities, targeting the general public, businesses, and government employees to fund their organizations. All detainees, along with the seized items, have been transferred to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal action. This operation marks a notable effort by security forces to curb insurgent activities and maintain peace in the region.
