Faridabad – The prestigious 38th Surajkund International Crafts Mela, running from February 7 to February 23, 2025, has once again transformed into a vibrant hub for artisans, craftsmen, and cultural performers from around the globe. A highlight of this year’s event is the remarkable participation of artisans from Assam, who are showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and rich cultural tapestry of Northeast India.
Among those attracting significant attention is Dhiraj Rajbongshi, whose stall adorned with traditional Assamese motifs features an array of handmade bamboo and cane products. His intricate and eco-friendly creations have won the admiration of both art enthusiasts and buyers. Adding to the diversity, Rajiv Saikia, another talented entrepreneur from Assam, has leveraged this platform to highlight sustainable art, thanking the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) for their support. Saikia’s varied collection of handcrafted items further underscores the unique artistic identity of Northeast India.
Organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism, in collaboration with Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture, and External Affairs, the Surajkund Mela is acclaimed as the world’s largest crafts fair. Drawing over a million visitors, including numerous international tourists, the event serves as a vital platform for artisans to showcase their work and connect with a global audience.
Beyond the craft stalls, the Mela offers a lively array of folk performances, cultural showcases, and craft demonstrations aimed at preserving traditional skills. Visitors can explore a multi-cuisine Food Court offering various ethnic dishes and enjoy an array of activities, including adventure sports and joy rides, making the Surajkund Mela a truly immersive cultural experience.
