Urgent Alert: Night Curfew Imposed in Assam’s Cachar District Amid Border Tensions – Stay Safe!
Authorities in Assam’s Cachar district have initiated a night curfew along the Indo-Bangladesh border to enhance security and prevent illegal activities. The curfew restricts movement within a one-kilometer radius of the border from dusk to dawn for two months, aiming to curb the transit of extremists and unauthorized trade across the border. This decision was made by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav using Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), allowing for preventive actions to maintain peace.
The directive also bans all activities on the Surma River and its elevated banks during nighttime, with exceptions only for residents granted prior approval. These permissions require submission to the District Magistrate and the Commandant of the 170th BSF Battalion. Additionally, the transportation of essential goods such as sugar, rice, wheat, edible oil, and salt is restricted within a five-kilometer area near the border from sunset to sunrise. Special permits issued by the Circle Officer of Katigorah Circle are necessary for any transport activities after verification and clearance.
The superintendent of police, Numal Mahatta, confirmed enhanced night patrols by Cachar Police and the BSF to bolster security and foster ongoing peace and stability in the region. The heightened measures reflect an urgent need to address potential threats and secure the border area effectively.
