Exciting Approval: Arunachal’s Heartfelt Tribute to Kalikho Pul with Annual Table Tennis Championship!
The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has formally approved the Late Kalikho Pul Memorial Table Tennis Championship as an annual event, cementing its place in the state’s sports calendar. This decision was made during the Cabinet meeting held in Nyapin, aligning with the third edition of the tournament organized by Table Tennis Arunachal (TTA). The championship serves a dual purpose: commemorating the legacy of Kalikho Pul, a former Chief Minister, and fostering the sport of table tennis among aspiring athletes in Arunachal Pradesh.
Late Kalikho Pul, who briefly served as Chief Minister in 2016, garnered recognition for his commitments despite a tenure marred by controversy—his appointment was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Known as a dedicated leader, Pul’s contributions to youth development and sports remain significant. He tragically passed away on August 9, 2016, under circumstances that prompted demands for a CBI investigation.
Dasanglu Pul, serving as the MLA of Hayuliang and his widow, passionately stressed the importance of the championship, highlighting her husband’s lifelong dedication to youth and sports. She remarked that the government’s current focus on sports offers a fitting tribute to Pul’s legacy, complementing other beloved sports like badminton and football.
His son, Ojingso Pul, reminisced about his father as a people-oriented leader, esteemed for his tireless work ethic and societal impact. By institutionalizing this event, the government aims to inspire young athletes and honor the former leader’s devotion to elevating youth opportunities through sports.
The inclusion of the Late Kalikho Pul Memorial Table Tennis Championship on the annual sports calendar not only honors a prominent figure but also aims to cultivate a generation of sports enthusiasts and competitors in Arunachal Pradesh, promoting the state’s athletic aspirations and nurturing emerging talent.
