Empowering Lives: Shiv Sena Launches Life-Saving Deputy CM’s Medical Aid Cell to Amplify Relief Efforts in Mumbai
The Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, has launched a Deputy Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Aid Cell at the Maharashtra secretariat. This initiative mirrors the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, aiming to provide medical aid to patients in need. Mangesh Chivate, head of the Shiv Sena’s Balasaheb Thackeray Medical Relief Cell, stated that the cell was established on February 9th, Shinde’s birthday. It will collaborate with the state’s public health department to enhance the implementation of health schemes like the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.
Addressing political speculations, Chivate clarified that the new cell is not meant to counter the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund but to complement it. The cell will not offer financial relief directly but will coordinate with the CMRF, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and other schemes to assist patients.
This development follows reports by The Indian Express about Deputy CM Shinde’s plans to establish a coordination center for overseeing infrastructure, housing, and planning projects. This is despite Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis already maintaining a similar “war room” for ongoing infrastructure projects at Mantralaya.
In a related context, the NCP, under Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, also operates medical cells to assist needy patients and plans to launch another from Mantralaya soon. Previously, when Fadnavis served as Deputy CM in the Shinde-led Mahayuti government, he initiated a medical aid cell under the law department at Mantralaya’s fifth floor. Subsequently, upon becoming Chief Minister, Fadnavis merged this cell with the CMRF and replaced Sena’s Chivate with Rameshwar Naik as head.
Notably, Shinde has been distancing himself from government meetings, being absent from recent war room and metropolitan development review sessions, which fall under his urban development department’s purview.
