Celebrate Victory: Nagaland Forest Management Project Triumphs with Prestigious SKOCH Award!
Summary:
The Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) has been honored with the prestigious SKOCH Award 2024 for its outstanding contributions to sustainable forest and environmental conservation, along with enhancing livelihoods in targeted villages. The award was presented at the 100th SKOCH Summit in New Delhi on February 15. The ceremony saw Ango Konyak, Deputy Conservator of Forests (HQ) and Deputy Project Director of NFMP, alongside Wennyei Konyak, Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House, New Delhi, receiving the accolade.
Implemented by Nagaland’s Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the NFMP aims to rehabilitate jhum areas and bolster income generation by improving forest ecosystems and supporting village-specific livelihoods. Launched in 2017, the project is scheduled to conclude in 2027, with its scope spanning 185 villages across 11 districts and 22 forest ranges in Nagaland.
The SKOCH Award, recognized for its independent and rigorous outcome-based assessment, stands as one of India’s top independent honors for states and organizations. It is supported by the CEOs Association for Inclusive India (CAII), promoting the country’s inclusive growth through diverse initiatives. Since 1997, the SKOCH Group has been a leading think tank in socio-economic issues, focusing on inclusive growth and bestowing India’s highest independent civilian honors in governance, technology, economics, and the social sector.
This recognition underscores NFMP’s strategic and sustainable interventions facilitated by joint forest management committees, marking a significant milestone in Nagaland’s environmental and socio-economic development journey.
