Amid ongoing political unrest in Manipur, BJP MLA Karam Shyam has refuted rumors of President’s Rule being imposed, expressing confidence that the crisis will be resolved through the intervention of central leaders and state legislators. In a media interaction prior to his meeting with BJP North East in-charge Sambit Patra at Hotel Imphal, Shyam asserted, “I don’t know about the imposition of President’s Rule. I think the problem will be solved by central leaders with the help of state legislators. I don’t think there will be a constitutional crisis in Manipur.”
His comments come as the state faces continued instability, with the Manipur Assembly not having convened for six months, leaving the political situation unresolved. Although there has been no official statement about the current state of affairs, tensions are palpable.
Sambit Patra has been actively engaging with BJP MLAs through individual meetings since February 10 to address the crisis. Earlier today, he met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhawan. Following the 50-minute discussion, Patra chose not to divulge any details on potential developments, maintaining a reserved stance when pressed by reporters. Meanwhile, Minister Leishangthem Sushindro has arrived at the same hotel but has yet to issue any public remarks.
As the situation unfolds, all attention is focused on the BJP’s central leadership, who are tasked with determining the next steps for Manipur. The mounting uncertainty and high stakes make this a crucial moment for the state’s political future.
