Shocking Turn of Events: Guwahati Police Take Action Against Popular Influencers – Ranveer Allahbadia’s Sincere Apology
Guwahati, Feb. 10: Guwahati Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against prominent YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known for his channel BeerBiceps, along with several other high-profile influencers. This legal action was confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday evening. The FIR, registered under Cyber Police Station Case No. 03/2025, is currently under investigation by the Guwahati Crime Branch.
The complaint cites sections 79, 95, 294, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Moreover, elements from the Cinematograph Act of 1952 and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 have been applied. The allegations stem from a controversial comment made by Allahbadia on comedian Samay Raina’s show, "India’s Got Latent," which has sparked considerable public and political backlash.
Significantly, the incident has ignited political controversy, with opposition figures criticizing the ruling government for its affiliations with digital influencers. Jorhat Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi took particular aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had previously honored Allahbadia with the ‘Disruptor of the Year’ award at the National Creators Award 2024. Gogoi questioned the Prime Minister’s discretion in endorsing such figures, and urged more careful consideration in future endorsements.
In response to the growing criticism, Allahbadia released an apology video on social media platform X, acknowledging the inappropriateness of his remarks. He candidly admitted, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry." This incident underscores the growing scrutiny and debate over digital content and the responsibilities of influential creators amidst India’s evolving media landscape.
