Manipur Police Heroically Capture Dangerous Militants in Dramatic Anti-Extortion Operations
On February 8, Manipur police successfully apprehended three active militants affiliated with banned organizations in the Imphal-West district. In a significant bust, two operatives of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF – Pambei) were detained near Narankonjil, close to Chandranadi Village. The suspects, Khoisnam Ronaldo Singh, aged 23, and Soram Ngouba Meitei, 30, were implicated in extorting money from the public, including government officials and shopkeepers, across Greater Imphal. They were also involved in the illegal arms trade to facilitate these extortion activities. During the arrest, authorities seized a .32 pistol with a magazine, a two-wheeler, two mobile phones, and a wallet containing Rs. 3,120.
In a separate operation, the police nabbed Ningthoujam Khamba, a 52-year-old militant associated with the RPF/PLA, from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Machin. Khamba was allegedly involved in extortion operations targeting rented houses and shops in the Nagamapal and Uripok areas. From his possession, the police confiscated a two-wheeler, two mobile phones, a wallet with Rs. 510, and an Aadhaar card.
These arrests mark a significant step for law enforcement in combating militant activities within the region, aiming to curtail extortion rackets and the proliferation of illegal arms. The operations underscore the ongoing commitment of the authorities to maintain law and order in the face of persistent threats from banned outfits in Manipur.
