Discover the Vibrant Heart of India: Kumaraswamy’s Passionate Tribute to the Northeast | MorungExpress
Mysuru, February 9 (IANS) – Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, emphasized that the Northeast holds a pivotal place in India, describing it as not merely a part of the country but its heart. Speaking at the SEIL – ABVP Rashtriya Ekatmata Yatra, he highlighted the significance of national integration and cultural exchange, particularly between the Northeastern states and the rest of India. Initiatives like Student Experience in Interstate Living (SEIL) were praised for fostering national unity, dismantling stereotypes, and creating enduring connections among students since 1966.
Kumaraswamy hailed the Northeast as a region of stunning landscapes, diverse cultures, and rich traditions, underscoring its historical importance. He recounted that it was in Moirang, Manipur, where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the Indian National Army first hoisted the flag of independent India in 1944. The region is also a key player in the tea industry and is home to 166 ethnic communities, enriching India’s cultural fabric.
Despite these strengths, Kumaraswamy acknowledged the challenges faced by the Northeast, including geographical isolation, illegal infiltration, natural disasters, and gaps in infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He urged for change to rectify its often distant perception in the rest of India.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the region, Kumaraswamy referenced the transition from the ‘Look East Policy’ to the ‘Act East Policy’, aimed at enhancing economic growth, infrastructure, and connectivity. Modi’s vision sees the Northeastern states as ‘Ashtalakshmi,’ recognizing their vast potential and focusing on their progress. He further elaborated on the central government’s efforts to integrate the Northeast into India’s growth, from bolstering borders to developing infrastructure.
The minister also paid homage to his father, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, who undertook a groundbreaking six-day visit to the Northeast, announcing a significant financial package that marked a turning point for the region’s development.
