Triumphant BJP Cheers Delhi Victory, Sets Ambitious Sights on Bengal’s Political Landscape
The West Bengal BJP unit celebrated their strong performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, viewing it as a rejection of corruption and an endorsement of their development-focused agenda. BJP state president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar attributed the victory to the people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and anticipated it would energize party workers in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Majumdar emphasized the BJP’s commitment to making people self-reliant, contrasting it with what he described as the “dole politics” of rivals. He declared the party’s next target to be Bengal, expressing confidence in unseating the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and raising the BJP flag in the state.
Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, praised the victory as a decisive mandate against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), highlighting the benefits of a double-engine government for Delhi residents. He encouraged unity among Hindu communities as a strategy for defeating the TMC in West Bengal.
While BJP supporters in North Kolkata celebrated the Delhi victory, TMC leaders downplayed its implications for West Bengal. Senior TMC leader and state general secretary Kunal Ghosh assured that Mamata Banerjee would secure more than 250 seats in the 2026 West Bengal elections. He insisted that Delhi’s results held no significance for Bengal.
Meanwhile, CPIM’s Sujan Chakraborty suggested that divisions within the anti-BJP vote contributed to AAP’s defeat. Congress state president Suvankar Chakraborty noted AAP’s struggle with incumbency and reaffirmed Congress’s ongoing battle against communal forces in India.
Overall, opinions are sharply divided among political parties regarding the potential impact of the Delhi election results on West Bengal’s political landscape.
