Shocking Defeat: BJP Declares AAP’s Game Over in Delhi – Kejriwal to Face Punjab Poll Impact
The BJP’s landmark victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, breaking a 27-year hiatus, has energized its Punjab counterparts. Nonetheless, Punjab’s BJP is still searching for a cohesive leader after Sunil Jakhar, its president, tendered his resignation last November. Despite refraining from party meetings, Jakhar remains vocal on state issues. The BJP’s state general secretary, Anil Sarin, believes the Delhi win signals a shift, predicting similar success in Punjab’s 2027 elections as the public grows weary of AAP’s governance. He dismissed concerns over farmer protests, attributing them to a limited faction rather than a substantial electoral threat. Sarin emphasized the necessity of translating their promising vote share into seats, highlighting the BJP’s reorganization efforts at grassroots levels.
Following the split with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over contentious farm laws, both parties suffered electoral setbacks in Punjab. Despite bettering SAD’s vote share in recent polls, BJP’s overall performance remained subdued. The influx of Congress leaders into BJP’s ranks has roused internal friction, underscoring a leadership deficit to unify its cadre. Prominent BJP and SAD officials are rallying support, urging Punjab to emulate Delhi’s rejection of AAP, accused of corruption and poor governance.
Sunil Jakhar publicly congratulated BJP’s leadership on social media, advocating for Punjab to be liberated from AAP under Modi’s stewardship. Supporting this sentiment, core committee member Kewal Singh Dhillon predicted BJP’s government formation in Punjab by 2027. Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu echoed these sentiments, envisioning a prosperous Punjab aligned with Narendra Modi’s vision. SAD’s Sukhbir Singh Badal lauded Delhi’s electorate for ousting AAP, drawing parallels with Punjab’s situation, and urged voters to take decisive action in upcoming elections. The collective resolve appeals to Punjab’s electorate to capitalize on BJP’s momentum for future political shifts.
