Dynamic Shift: Former BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyary Energizes UPPL with Strategic Move Ahead of Crucial Polls
In a significant political development in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Deputy Chief and ex-Vice President of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Kampa Borgoyary, has officially joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). The ceremonial induction took place at an impressive event at Thaikhajhora playground in Chirang district, where Borgoyary was accompanied by over 400 supporters and well-wishers.
The UPPL, under the leadership of President and BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, warmly welcomed Borgoyary. Boro extended a traditional Aronai and a bouquet to the new member, amid a significant turnout that underscored the UPPL’s growing influence in the region. This move is perceived as a strategic gain for the UPPL, further bolstering its political clout as it gears up for the upcoming elections.
Concurrent with this political realignment, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that elections for the BTC are scheduled to be completed before September 30, ahead of the Assembly elections, with expectations to conclude the polls before Durga Puja. Addressing the media, Sarma assured that the coalition strategy between the BJP and UPPL would be decided through discussions between UPPL leader Pramod Boro and Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia. The potential alliance is being evaluated on a pragmatic basis, with consideration for which approach—joint or separate contesting—would yield better electoral results.
Borgoyary’s shift from BPF to UPPL marks a notable expansion of UPPL’s influence as the party prepares for imminent political challenges in the region. This development is set against the backdrop of broader political maneuvers, emphasizing strategic alliances and electoral calculations in Assam’s political landscape.
