Heartbreaking Surge: 23 Hindus Killed and 152 Temple Attacks Reported in Bangladesh Since August – Government Reports
According to reports presented in the Lok Sabha, since August, Bangladesh has witnessed 23 Hindu deaths and 152 attacks on Hindu temples. Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, detailed that between November 26, 2024, and January 25, 2025, there were 76 incidents targeting Hindus in Bangladesh. The Indian government has expressed concern over these incidents to Bangladesh and reiterated the need for the protection of Hindus and other minorities during the foreign secretary’s visit to Bangladesh on December 9, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh government reported that on December 10, 2024, 70 arrests had been made related to 88 cases involving minority attacks. Further police investigations confirmed 1,254 incidents of violence. It was emphasized that Bangladesh bears the primary responsibility for safeguarding the rights and safety of all its citizens, including minorities. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka continues to vigilantly monitor the situation.
In a separate revelation, it was noted that out of 127 Indian nationals in the Russian armed forces, the contracts of 97 individuals have been terminated. Additionally, 12 Indian nationals were reported dead, with the remains of seven repatriated to India while cremations for two were conducted in Russia at the request of their families. The Indian government is actively seeking confirmation of the remaining three cases with the Russian authorities.
