Japanese Envoy Visits Assam to Explore Semiconductor Opportunities and Strengthen Industrial Collaboration
In a significant move towards advancing Assam’s semiconductor industry, Keiichi Ono, Japan’s Ambassador to India, visited the Tata semiconductor assembly and test site in Jagiroad, Morigaon district. This visit underscores Japan’s keen interest in integrating its technology and expertise within the region. The Ambassador’s presence signals potential collaborations aimed at accelerating industrial growth in Assam.
The initiative was welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who expressed enthusiasm for deepening the India-Japan partnership, particularly through the establishment of a Japanese industrial town near Guwahati. “Japan has long been a major partner of our country, and we are looking to enhance this partnership in Assam,” Sarma stated at the fifth India-Japan Intellectual Conclave, highlighting plans to boost industrial development.
In addition to semiconductors, Ambassador Ono toured a bamboo harvesting site backed by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). This project seeks to enhance energy supply and improve local farmers’ livelihoods through sustainable resource use, reflecting a shared commitment to renewable energy solutions.
Chief Minister Sarma is anchoring efforts to fortify India-Japan business ties, highlighting this at the forthcoming ‘Advantage Assam’ investment summit. Recent discussions with Japanese business leaders aimed at fostering collaborations emphasize the establishment of a Japanese Industrial Park in the state.
These endeavors mark a promising chapter in Assam’s pursuit of industrial innovation and growth through international partnerships, positioning the region as a pivotal player in the semiconductor and renewable energy sectors.
