Meghalaya Police Triumph: 20 Suspected Drug Users Detained in Bold Footpath Crackdown
On February 5, Cantonment Beat House police detained 20 individuals suspected of drug use during a focused operation on GS Road for blocking public pathways. The group was discovered idling near the intersection of Ajmera and Boucher Road, leading authorities to intervene and address the disruption.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem explained that the individuals were processed under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), a legal framework for citizen protection. Police meticulously documented profiles for each suspect to ensure the appropriate legal actions were taken in accordance with the BNSS guidelines.
This operation is a component of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to uphold public safety and ensure pedestrian areas along the heavily trafficked GS Road remain accessible and unhindered. By tackling such obstructions head-on, authorities aim to foster a safer and more orderly community environment.
